Show Dear Editor: On the 12th day of September, Septem-ber, we go to the polls to represent each party in the Nov. elections. In an ear- . lier letter to the editor, I raised the question of whether whe-ther or not it is proper for a full-time public employee to hold public office while at the same time continuing in the public employment. It is not against the law for a school teacher ;to hold a public office in the State of Utah, but is such in the public pub-lic interest? I think that the fact that it is unlawful in the majority of states for full-time school teachers to . run for public office is pretty " sound proof that it is not in the public interest. I think that the school teacher tea-cher who is running for public pub-lic ofiice is an excellent school teacher and I think he would make a good commissioner com-missioner were it not for the conflict of interest in attempting at-tempting to be the master . and servant at the same time. This man wants to-be a private pri-vate in- the Army and a captain cap-tain in the Air Force at one time and I don't feel that it's fair to either the Army or the Air Force. I - still strongly feel that there should be a law prohibiting pro-hibiting all persons from holding two uositions in government at the same time and I feel that, in the absence of such a law, we citizens and taxpayers should make our disapproval of public employees to hold two public offices known through the ballot box. Sincerely, O. C. Caouette |
