Show Moabite Completes Course In Science Foundation Work Mr. Ted Tibbetts has just completed a month long training session in the Resource Re-source Personnel Workshop at Southern Utah State College Col-lege in Cedar City. This was a special workshop funded by the National Science Foundation Foun-dation and was de-signed for College Professors of Science, School Supervisors, and District Dis-trict Administrators. The participants par-ticipants gained experience and enriched their background with units from the Elemen-tarv Elemen-tarv School Science Project (ESS), Science ... A Process Pro-cess Approach (SAPA), and the Science Curriculum Improvement Im-provement Study (SCIS). The-se three projects represent rep-resent the latest approach in the teaching of science in the elementary schools, with articulation into the high schools. Mr. Tibbetts studied stud-ied the application of the strategies and philosophies of each of the projects and practice taught (microtaught) the units to school children in Ce-dar City. His teaching performance was videotaped on television and Mr. Tibbetts Tib-betts was selected as one of the most outstanding teachers teach-ers in the Workshop. The objective of the Workshop Work-shop is to have each participant partici-pant return to his school district dis-trict or institution and direct institutes and inservice training for elementary school teachers using the latest me- thods in teaching science at their grade level. Teachers and administrators administrat-ors were selected from most of the states in the United States. The Workshop was directed by Dr. Wes'Larsen, a voter-an voter-an science educator and former for-mer program officer wit! the National Science Foundation. Founda-tion. Teaching staff included Dr. Kussel Anderson, Lee Morrell, George LeBaron, and David Braegger. Practice Prac-tice teaching - sessions were evaluated by psychologist Les Jones and Blanche LeBaron, an experienced elementary school teacher. Special teaching teach-ing sessions were conducted by geologist Blair Maxfield, ornithologist Richard Dot-son, Dot-son, and astronomer M. Robert Ro-bert Jones. Dean McRa'y Cloward of the School of Com tinuing Education directed the implementation seminar. It is hoped that local school systems will take advantage of the training and technical skills developed by Mr. Tib-bets, Tib-bets, officials at the college stated. |
