Youth Conservation Corps Applications Available Young men and women in Utah who wish to participate in the Youth Conservation corps (YCC) can obtain applications from school counselors and Forest Service offices through March 31, 1976. . . The YCC program is open to young men and women who are 15 but not yet 19 years old. j They must be permanent residents of the United States and have a desire to work in the out-of-doors helping to develop and maintain the Nation's natural environment. Participants are paid for an eigbr-week period, starting, in mid-June. They must ' be physically qualified to participate partici-pate in the various physical work and training projects of the program, and all YCC members are expected to provide proper clothing and footwear. The purpose of the YCC program is to further the development and maintenance of the natural resources of the United States by employing young men and women to work on conservation projects in the outdoors. In past years, completed YCC projects have included stream improvement, tree thinning, range fencing, trail clearing, and construction of recreation facilities. There will be approximately 300 jobs at eight camps operated by the Forest Service, Ser-vice, Department of Interior, and the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation. The youths will be assigned to camps throughout the state where they will perform work on needed conservation projects. Because there are more applicants than available jobs, selections will be made at random by the State Board of 1 Education, thereby allowing all applicants an equal opportunity oppor-tunity to be selected. Those selected will be notified by the a YCC Project Manager. Unsuc- cessful applicants will be I notified. 5 Applicants for all Forest Service programs will be given 5 equal consideration without $ regard to race, color, sex, creed or national origin. |
