Show Girl Scout Homecoming Fete ! Draws Large Number of Girls The Girl Scout Homecoming Homecom-ing celebration last weekend week-end to commemmorate 20 years of Scouting in Moab was rated a tremendous success. Over half the members of the first Scout troop and I the Mexican Cabana tour group returned to Moab for the event; a large group of local and state officials were also present. Honored guest was Mrs. Mitchell Melich, of Salt Lake City, who started the first Girl Scout troop in Moab and promoted' additional troops to the present 10-troop 10-troop total. Mrs. Melich is now on the Region 12 Com- mittee. ' 1 j The Alumni Scouts were j honored at a dinner at th5 ! Apache Cafe Saturday ev- j ening. Past scouting activ- j ities were reviewed, and letters from absent members mem-bers read to bring the group up to date on present activ- ' ities of the former Scouts. Mrs. Lester Taylor was i Master of Ceremonies ofr i the event. Mrs. Wallace Sherman hostessed a breakfast for the visitors at her home on Sunday morning. An impressive ceremony at the Helen M. Knight auditorium au-ditorium Sunday afternoon drew a full house of visitors visi-tors and Moab Scouting prcmotors. The event opened open-ed with over 200 Scouts singing the Piper's song; over 450 Scouts participated in the program. Ofhers on the program included Howard Balsley, Mayor Winford Bunce, and visiting officials. Mrs. Melich Me-lich was principal speaker; Mrs. Jean Lea was presented present-ed with a statuette in recognition rec-ognition of her 5 year service ser-vice as Neighborhood committee com-mittee chairman. Mrs. Flora Evans was Master of Ceremonies. Cere-monies. A social hour followed fol-lowed the program. Mrs. Lester Taylor was chairman of the Homecoming Homecom-ing celebration. State visitors visi-tors included Mrs. John Conrow, president Of the Utah Girl Scout Council; Miss Claudia Perkins, executive ex-ecutive director; Mrs. Kate Manz, camp adminitsrator; 'Mrs. Lyle Gaskill, Piper; J Mips. R. G. Wetter, Mrs. Corwin Likens, all of Salt I Lake City; Mrs. PJ. J. Tens- ' feldt, Dragerton; Mrs. G. A. Farnsworth, Sunnyside; and Mrs. Harry Malaby, Columbia. |
