The Associated Press is in receipt of advices that Kingston, Jamaica, has been destroyed de-stroyed by an earthquake, with much loss of life. i The announcement issued by the Western Union fol- j lows: "The Western Union Telegraph company has received re-ceived advices that communication with Kingston, Jamaica, Ja-maica, is interrupted, also to the isthmus via Jamaica, caused apparently by an earthquake, and that later advices are that land line communication is restored to within five miles of Kingston. Traffic may be accepted at sender's risk, subject to heavy delay. Reported that Kingston destroyed de-stroyed by the earthquake with much loss of life." Kingston is the capital and largest citv of the island of Jamaica. Its population is about 4i.itOO. It is a seaport on the southern coast of the isl and, on the Caribbean sea. From the city railwavs and good wagon roads penetrate the interior. Jamaica is a British West Indian island, the southernmost of the West Indian In-dian group. I |
