Speaker Joseph Jo-seph moved that the address of the institution be changed to Bichfield, and in order to save the i bill the amendment amend-ment was tabled. New Bills Introduced.; By consent, the following bills were introduced in the House. H. B. No. 267, Committee on Mining and Smelting Being a substitute for S.-yB. No. 26, by Miller, providing for the manner of locating and recording quartz and placer mining claims. Placed on the calendar. H. B. No. 268, by Dean Relating to the manner of taking an appeal to the Supreme court and to provide for the specification in the notice of appeal of the particular errors on which the appellant ap-pellant will rely. Referred to the Committee on Judiciary. H. B. No. 269, by Dean Providing that on appeal to the Supreme court it shall not be necessary to prepare, serve or file therein a printed transcript, tran-script, or an abstract, of the record on appeal. Referred to the Judiciary committee. Both the above bills were introduced under a suspension of the rules. Before ' convening . yesterday the House sent a number of members before be-fore the bar of the House for a little "horse play." The first . persons on whom fell the order to appear were Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Kuchler of Ogden. Og-den. The Representative was asked to give bis excuse for being late Monday afternoon, and as Mrs. Kuchler was with him, she was late also. Kuchler was fined a box of cigars and a box of oranges. ' Mrs. Kuchler was fined a new bonnet, for which the Representative is to be compelled to foot the bill. Representative Croft was sentenced to smoke a cigarette. This was later changed to furnishing a box of oranges. or-anges. Representative Maughn got into trouble for being late. It cost him ci-gars ci-gars for the House. Representative Richards was also among the tardy, and a school teacher also. He was ordered or-dered to be married in five days or supply the House with chocolates. Many Committee Reports. When the House was called to order in the afternoon more than a score of committee reports were ready to be acted upon. Favorable reports were received on the following bills: 8. B. No. 75, H. B. No. 208, S. B. No. 78, H. B. No. 106, 8. B. No. 109, as substitute substi-tute for H. B. No. 14; H. B. No. 70, H. B. No. 140, 8. B. No. 68, H. J. M. No. -3, H. B. No. 87. H. J. M. No. 5, H. B. No. 267, as substitute for 8. B. No. 26, and H. B. No. 25. An adverse report re-port was made on H. B. No. 87. Speaker Joseph declared that he would call for reports in four days from the following committees: Private Pri-vate Corporations, Coal Investigation committee, Salaries and Fees, Claims and Public Accounts, and; Highways and Bridges. Tor School Gymnasiums. A communication was received from the teachers of Sevier county indorsing indors-ing the bill now pending which is for the establishment of libraries and. gymnasiums, and also asking that State aid be given the high schools. H. B. 30 was made a special order of business busi-ness for Saturday. The House passed H. B. No. 36, making mak-ing provisions for the hiring of a tem- forary deputy Superintendent of Pubic Pub-ic Instruction, instead of having a permanent official, as is at present the case. Another bill passed was H. B. po. 63, by Richards, which provides for settlements between school districts and cities of the first, second and third classes, where the districts become annexed. an-nexed. . , H. B. No. 64, by Richards, giving County Assessors authority to require statements of taxable property, was also passed. Life to Federal Bill. Representative Clegg's pet measure for the Federal bunch, known as H. B. No. 50, was given a lease of life by being referred re-ferred to the Special Municipal committee. com-mittee. This was one of the three bills introduced forcing the banking of public pub-lic funds. One other is noted by a headstone only; the remaining one applies ap-plies to Salt Lake City. Senator Hollingsworth 's bill. No. 71. to change the name of the deaf and SHIP SUBSIDY BILL COMING UP IN HOUSE WASHINGTON", Feb. 20. Ship subsidy sub-sidy will probably be considered by the House at night sessions late this week. Speaker Cannon and Representative Watson, the Republican whip, conferred with the President concerning the raat- ter today, and although no positive agreement has been reached Mr. Watson Wat-son said that it now seems likely that the Littauer bill will be considered on the floor. In case the subsidy measure is taken up by the House it probably will be under a rule limiting the debate to two evenings, and the bill will be subject to amendment. |
