Show WILD DASH FOR LIBERTY MADE BY SOLDIER FROM FORT Noah Simons, a member of company H, Twenty-ninth infantry, made a dash for liberty from the police station about 11 o'clock last night. Simons had been arrested by Patrolman Seigfus on a charge of interfering with an officer. . The policeman whose beat is at the Rio Grande depot was on his way home , on an East Second South street car. Just as the car left Main a soldier named Atkins, who was drunk, commenced com-menced to use obscene language. ' The officer at once placed him under arrest and was about to leave the car when Simons took a hand in the matter. He was promptly arrested, too. and both soldiers were taken from the car followed fol-lowed by several other soldiers. When they arrived at the station Simons and Atkins' were booked and the start was made for the jail, which is. in the rear. No sooner had Simons feot into the hall than he made a dash for liberty. He was followed by several policemen. Simons ran west to State, south to Commercial avenue, west to Commercial Commer-cial and south ou that street until he was cau'ght by a man who heard the cries of the pursuing policemen. He was returned to the station, where he was locked up for the night. . |
