Show WESTERN SEPARATING PLANT IS CLOSED Under instructions from headquarters in New York City, the plant of the Western Ore Separating companv cf this city was closed down today. Indications Indi-cations point to a permanent cessation of work, and it is likely that the company will withdraw entirely from this city and State within the next few weeks. The plant is located at Seventh' North and Fifth West streets, and is housed in a large, two-story" frame building. About eighteen months ago the works were established, and the estimated sum of $75,000 expended in starting the business, which was devoted de-voted mainly to separating zinc ore from rock shipped here from the Daly- Judge mines. Back of the Western Ore Separating companv is the Lanyon Zinc company, operated by - the same interests, it is supposed, which control the Daly-Judge properties. H. D. Quinby, who has been active manager of the plant since its inception, will withdraw and enter into a similar enterprise in this city. About thirty-five men were constantly employed at the plant, and all of these will be temporarily thrown out of employment. em-ployment. Offices of the company on the second floor of the Atlas block were being dismantled dis-mantled this morning, and 'preparations made for closing them up. An auditor of the company .has been here from New York City for almost a month, winding up the affairs. No reason is given for dissolving the Western Ore Separating eompany, but it is understood that the plant has not been conducted on a profitable basis, and for that reason was discontinued. |
