TODAT la preliminary practice day and the opening of the third annual trap shooting tournament of tha Utah State Sportsmen's association- at Ogden. under the auspices of the Ogden Oun club and will take place at the club's new trap shooting grounds at the new Ogden Country club. The shoot will extend over three days, today, tomorrow and Tuesday. One hundred experts, profesaionala and novices, are expected ex-pected to take part this year. In addition to a large list of trophies which have been obtained for the event, ths prises will include in-clude over 150 In cash put up by the Ogden trap enthusiasts. Today the entrants will be divided Into two classes. A and B., the former being of greater experience and expertness than the B class. Ths scatterguns will come from Utah, Idaho. Wyoming and Colorado. This Is ths first year that efforts bsv been made to make the class distinction and will be In the nature na-ture of making two tournaments of the one. an expert amateur tourney tour-ney and a novice amateur tourney. Tha classification committee, which will make ths distinctions, will classify every man who enters. If th committee places a man Into ths B class and he wants to shoot In the A class, he can be transferred, trans-ferred, but the rule is not reversible. reversi-ble. Prizes for both divisions will he given. OPENS AT I TODAY. A leo-bh-d blue rock event at IS yards In fiva twenty-bird divisions will be ' staged. Prise for first, second and third places will be awarded. " Tomorrow the shoot will start at a. m.. and It will Include the biggest events of the tourney. Then the Interstst association amateur stats championship will be held. The winner of this event will be sent to Chicago, expenses paid, to tha American handicaps, which occur there In August and will receive th title of amateur trap shooting champion for ITtah. Tomorrow also th Salt Lstk Hardware handicap, th Becker cup event the Challenge cup event and the C. H. Reilly medal event will b held. Tuesday the tournament will be resumed and the main event that day will be th shoot for tha Browning trophy. Then, too, th two-man race and th team rac ' will b pulled off. The team race will conclude th tourney and will be for 260 targets at IS yards. Ten-men teams will be entered. Following the final day's shoot, the annual meeting of the Utah Stat Sportsman's association will ba held at tha clnhhnuM J. F. Cowan of this city la president of th association at present. |
