Chapter of Patriotic Society Is Organized Here for Utahns o Miss Edith'Wire Named State Regent of Daughters of American Colonists Loral women who are descendants of American colonists who gave distinguished service before 1776 were organized into the Utah society of the Daughters of American Colonists Monday at the Hotel Utah by Mrs. Alexander Campbell Smither of Los Angeles, national I vice president, and Mrs. Freeman C. Rogers of Pueblo, Colo., national! honorarv vice president. Miss Edith Wire, who has acted as organising regent here, was made regent of the chapter. Preliminary plans for the association's forms-tion forms-tion hers were made by Miss Wire's mother, the late Mrs. Lida Farns-worth Farns-worth Wire, and were continued by Miss Wire upon the death of her mother. The unit received the official name of Matthias Farnsworth chapter, chap-ter, in honor of an ancestor of Miss Wire, who was one of the founders of Groton. Mass., and the Farnsworth Farns-worth garrison for protection against Indians. O'.her officers Installed were Mrs. Ralph E. Bristol, vice regent; Mrs. L M. Nottage. recording secretary; Miss Joanna Sprague. corresponding correspond-ing secretary: Mrs. Robert Bruce Folsom. treasurer; Miss Mary Augusta Au-gusta Sawyer, registrar; Mrs. Lora V. Randall, historian; Mrs. Andrew Jackson Hosmer, librarian; Mrs. Louis M. Nottage, custodian of the flag: Miss J. Sprague, program director, di-rector, and Mrs. R- B. Folsom. publicity director. Besides those mentioned, the charter membrs include Mrs. E. O. Leather-wood. Mias Margaret Leath-erwood. Leath-erwood. Mrs. Miriam Hubbard Burt, Miss Kathenne L Alnaugh, Mrs. Louis H. Stohr and Mrs. .A. Jack Hosmer. Mrs. Smither presented Miss Wire with a volume of "Sinry of the Constitution." by Sol Blr and the gavel for the chapter was presented pre-sented to Miss Wire by Mrs. Rogers. The gsvel is made of rock maple from Plymouth. Masa. Mrs. Rogers explained to the new members that the purpose of the organisation was to atudy colonial history, to mark hiatorical spots and for the "suppression of 'isms' foreign to American democracy by keeping alive the spirit of the colonists' |
