Lynch, M, Ml Eleventh East street, general manager of Utah's historic old Hidden Treasure mine near Ophir, died Monday of injuries suffered when he was crushed In a mine accident near the property, Mr. Lynch was riding a skip from the ISO-foot level up an incline shaft to the surface of the Cliff lease, near the Hidden Treasure, when bs apparently raised himself la the skip to look out A timber caught his head, burling burl-ing him backward to bs crushed between be-tween !he skip top and the roof of ths incline. The accident occurred Sunday about lam. Hs died Monday Mon-day at 12:93 a. m. In a local hospital. hos-pital. Mining Veteran Mr. Lynch has operated Wales la the mine for the last 44 years and during late years was general manager man-ager of operations there for the Hidden Treasure Mining DeveU opment company ef Philadelphia, Pa. The Hidden Treasure skyrocketed to Utah mining fame in the "70s and '80s when fabulous wealth was wrested from its depths. It is located lo-cated in Dry canyon, north of Ophir. Some 40 or 60 men are employed la the mine now. It is reported. Mr. Lynch wss engsged la alining alin-ing operations in Aspen, Colo, and Eureka. Utah, prior to bis work la the Hidden Treasure. At the time of his death he had aa Interest la a property near Grand Junction, Colo. Born la Illinois He wss bora March 10, lMf, la ' Charleston. 111., son of Nancy Jans Zink and William Lynch. H was a member of ths Grand Junction Masonic lodge. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Irene Lynch: a daughter. Miss Helen Hel-en G. Lynch: two sons. Oars 8. and Dal W. Lynch, all of Salt Laks City: a sister. Mrs. C L. Downs, Gsrden City. Kan, and on grandchild. grand-child. Funeral arrangements h not yet been announced. Ths body Is at the Evans and Early mortuary. |
