Show BOARD-TO SCAN-PAY SCAN-PAY OF WOMEN AT CAFE LABOR State Commission to Take Up Scale in Hotel's Next The state Industrial commission shortly will take up the task of ordering minimum wages for women wo-men and children employed in cafes, restaurants and hotels. Chairman William M. Knerr said Monday. No dates for meetings have been set, but employers of women and children in restaurants and cafes and employes shortly will be asked to nominate representatives to a board that will make studies and recommend minimum wages and maximum hours, Mr. Knerr said. Then, the same procedure will be followed in the case of hotel employes. em-ployes. After the boards have met and recommended wages and hours, public hearings will be called before be-fore the commission Issues orders. The commission now haa under advisement a wage of $16 a week for women and children employed in retail trades, recommended by a board but bitterly opposed from many quarters at a hearing. Action on the recommendation Is ! being held up pending an opinion ! by the attorney general regarding : powers of the commission. Mr. Knerr said it was possible wage orders would not be issued singly for various employments, but that the commission might watt until recommendations for all employments em-ployments have been made, then act on all at once. |
