Show CABINET LABOR CHIEFJO VISIT A busy 13-hour visit to Salt Lake City Is in store Friday for Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins first woman wo-man aver to hold a presidential cabinet cabi-net post according to arrangements arrange-ments being completed Wednesday. Secretary Perkina will leave Chicago Chi-cago Thursday for her special trip to Salt Lake City and arrive here at 30 a. m. Friday via tha Union Pacific railroad. Welcome Arranged A group of department of labor officials and prominent Utahns. including in-cluding Justice and Mrs. Jsmes H Wolfe, who will be Msdame Perkins' hosts, will meet the train. Mora than 200 local business men will attend the luncheon in the chamber of commerce, at which Secretary Perkina is expected to outline relations between government govern-ment and labor. Charles N. Fehr, chamber president, presi-dent, will preside and introduce the speaker. A number of city, county, atata and Jabox officials iiave lieeil invited aa special guests. William M. Knerr. chairman of the state industrial commission, said Wednesday that a conference between be-tween the secretary of labor, the state industrial commission and a group of ranking leaders of labor groups will be held at 2 p. m. "Government and Labor" will be the title of Madame Perkins' address ad-dress at tha Town Hall meeting arranged ar-ranged by Mrs. Wolfe as chairman of the Town Hall committee for the First Unitarian Society of Salt Lake City. Following the planned speech Secretary Perkins will answer questions ques-tions addressed to her by Gus P. Backman. chamber of commerce secretary representing Industry; Paul M. Peterson, president of the Utah State Federation of Labor, representing the workers, and Dr. Rose H. Widtsoe. home economics professor at the University of Utah, representing consumers. Governor Henry H. Blood will Introduce the labor secretary to the Town Hall audience, and Mr. Knerr will preside as chairman. Madame Perkins will leave the city to return to the east at 10:15 p. m. Friday. Plans for any informal social activities ac-tivities In her honor are being deferred de-ferred until after Madame Perkins' arrival so they can be fitted to her wishes, Mrs. Wolfe said. |
