Show SNOW REMOVAL FUNDSSOUGHT City commissioners Thursday were searching for soma 113,000 necessary for purchaaa of machinery machin-ery to keep municipal airport runways run-ways clear of snow this winter. The runways, recently completed under a more than $1,000,000 Improvement Im-provement program, will be of little use unlesa the snow is kept off them, -Commissioner P. H. Goggin pointed out. One more Improvement was add-ed add-ed to tha airport Wednesday night-when night-when a new 2.300.000-candlepower revolving beacon was put in operation opera-tion to beckon incoming planes to some of the best airplane runwaya in the nation (when they're clear of snow). The beacon, of the largest type la regular use, according to Verne G. Halliday, airport manager, is a 30-inch 30-inch affair which revolvea six times per minute and throws a whit and a green light. Purchase and installment install-ment cost approximately 31200. City commissioners scanned their budgets in vain for snow cleariog machinery funds, then named Commissioner Com-missioner Goggln and Finance Commissioner WilKam Murdoch to seek advancement of funds from the state aeronautical commission, which has access to stats aviation gasoline tax funds. |
