Show Utahns Finish Out of Money Special to The Telegram LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 With the $10,000 Loa Angeles open tournament filed away under finished fin-ished business, John Getrtsen of Salt Lake City and Georga Schnei-ter Schnei-ter of Ogden Tuesday were preparing pre-paring to enter the J.VKK) Oakland 72-hole open over the Sequoia Country club course starting Thuraday. Only a Stroke Apart Schneiter, professional at ths Ogden Golf and Country club, finished fin-ished the four-day tournament with 301, whils Getrtsen, pro at Salt Lake City's Bonneville club, completed play with a 302 total. Both Utahns finished out of the money. A total of 292 strokes or less was necessary to qualify for the prize money. Up until the final round Monday the Beehive stats golfers had remote chancea of getting get-ting In the "sugar" bracket, but the treacherous Riviera course finally proved too much for them. In Five Trapa It was Geertsen, who had played near par golf through the first three rounds, who paid dearest Monday. Long John was trapped on five of the last nine bolts to Ukt a 40 for the incoming nine. Schneiter and Geertsen, although out of the money tn this first major wintar golf tournament, had plenty of distinguished company to share their grief. Schneiter tied with Tay Coleman of Culver City, Emery Zimmerman of Portland, Jimmy MrHals of Philadelphia and Felix Serafln of Scranton, Pa. Getrtsen's score tied him with Byron Nelson of Toledo, Jimmy Hints of Great Neck. N. Y., and Guy Paulson of Winston-Salem, N. C |
