Retail trade was 10 per cent betted bet-ted than in December, 1939, and 25 to 30 per cent better than in November, 1940. Wholesale trade volume In December De-cember was 10 to 12 per cent hrvier than for the same month of llast year, but was down 5 per ceit from the November, 1940, leVel. This, Dun & Bradstreet explained, ex-plained, is a normal reaction, since mast of the holiday buying is done earlier in the year and purchases fori the following year are not made until after Inventories are taken. Manufacturing showed 10 to 12 pe cent improvement in business in pecember over that of the final month of 1939. Employment increased, in-creased, collections were steady or slightly improved. Agriculture was practically at a standstill, with potatoes and beans beihg the only storage crops with sizable quantities remaining unmarketed. |
