Show Utah " Atlilctlc Club Pro-crane: Pro-crane: pleases Ex-, v cert h D:cisi:ns. - Althc,h tlre were some stiffly contested con-tested bouta at the Utah Athletic and Social club Friday' night, the results were In a measure unsatisfactory. The causa for this waj not so much with the boxera therr. selves as with the way the bouts were handled. The men were corrpe'.Iji to break .clean, hlch la unsatisfactory un-satisfactory to the spectatora and. to the boxers also. Then, too, the decision8 were all draws. As Bilk O'Laughlin, the American league umpire, ' says, "There la no auoh thing as a close Ce-clslon." Ce-clslon." Either one man or thj ether has the best of It, and If It is so close that the refere cannot decide he should order the men to go another .round. ' . :; The main bout of the evening was between Young Price and Terry Davis at 122 pounds. Price is much the cleverer clev-erer of the two but Davis was much the stronger fighter "and appeared to have a shade the best of it at the end of the four rounds. Both men have been accustomed to flghtins; straight Marquis of Queensberry rulea nnd the clean break did not suit either. Neither man was especially fast. The other bout of the evening waa between Joe YoungXal Specie Smith. Smith was far the heavier of the two :&nd also much more experienced. He had Youngs distressed several times with hard body punches and hooks to the face but was In poor condition and could pot get bp steam enough to finish his opponent. Youngs, .however, waa In splendid shape and recovered quickly, being the freshor of the two at the fin-lrh. fin-lrh. He carried the fighting to Smith all the, time and for this reason the referee decided the fight a draw, although al-though on points Smith had the best of it. He must have outweighed Youngs at least ten pounds, however. prof. Bartella and his class did, some clever work on the mat and on the horltontal bar, and Griggs and Gregory wrestled a full hour without a fall. Both men were working hard bu: were evenly even-ly matched and did not show tx much knowledge of the game. - Prof. Bartells defeated Tx)uls Adler In a fencing contest. |
