Show NEW RULE WILL FAVOR THE BATTER CHICAGO. Dec. 8. The affairs of tha Washington club occupied all the time of the afternoon session of the American Baseball league, and when the meeting adjourned ad-journed last night the problem was as far from solution as ever, , At the night session, new rules to control con-trol the game were approved and will be submitted to the joint committee of the two major leagues for adoption. The most Important change agreed on was that In the future a pitched ball passing between the hip and shoulder shall constitute a Strike. A pitched ball between the knee and shoulder Is called a strike according to the present rule. It was also e greed to begin the playing season April 18 and that the schedule, should consist of but 140 gsmea, instead of 154, as last year. An effort will be made at the joint meeting of the two leagues to have the National league adopt a similar sim-ilar programme. A letter written by Secretary ruce of the National Baseball commission to President Pres-ident Johnson, suggeating that the two major leagues get together more closely on all questions, was read at the meeting and unanimously approved. |
