Reports from London before the opening of this stock market showed traces of support for price of American stocks, but the opening here was weak and there was heavy unloading un-loading at various points in the list. Six thousands shares of Amalgamated Copper sold at the opening at 68 and 67, compared with 68H last night, and the price quickly ran oft to C6M. There was very free selling of the United States Steel stocks, the common losing l1 and the preferred a point. Southern Pacific fell 14. Sugar opened up an extreme l?fc on running sales, but almost al-most immediately lost a greater part of the gain. The market was extremely feverish fe-verish and unsettled after the opening. Prices broke violently after futile efforts to support the market by bidding up Sugar Su-gar and lifting Ontario A Western 1 over last night. The Pennsylvania group. Union Pacific, Rock Island. St. Paul and Louisville & Nashville were supported at about last night's level, but the weight of liquidation caused by the wiping out of margins broke through the support and there was a violent hlump all around towards to-wards 11 o'clock. There were some sudden rallies Just before be-fore 11 o'clock on hasty covering of shorts, but the market continued extremely unsealed. un-sealed. In the panic which swept over the market mar-ket in the second hour stocks were sold without regard to prices and the resulting breaks reached In Colorado Fuel IMi, Amalgamated Copper 9, Tennessee Coal 4, Lake Erie & Western iVA, St. Paul 7. St Louis-Southwestern preferred 7, Sugar GH, Metropolitan Street Railway 5, and an extended list of all the principal active stocks between 3 and 4 points. When the shorts liquidated liqui-dated to cover there was some violent rallies ral-lies extending to 4 in United States Steel. 6 in Colorado Fuel, 4 in St. Paul and 24 to Z in many other of the principal sufferers on the break. Fluctuations continued extremely ex-tremely erratic under the Influence of renewed re-newed liquidation on the rally. Bonds were weak at noon. The selling carried prices quite generally a point Or more and St. Paul, Missouri Pacific, Amalgamated Copper, the United States Steel stocks, Tennessee Coal, Smelting and Sugar reacted 2 to 2.
