Show APPROPRIATIONS . FOR DEPARTMENTS WASHINGTON, Dec 8. The legislative, executive and Judicial appropriation bill, car.-ylng, t2S.83S.709. was reported to the House today. This Is $46,498 less than the estimate and 8235.SS1 more than the current cur-rent appropriation. The Appropriations committee has gene a step further in the matter of limiting the personal use of carriages by -Government officials, by providing for painting the name of tha department for which used on carriages and vehlclas when they are to be used by others than the heads of departments and the President's sj-e-tary, who ye provided with carriages for personal use by authority of law. There are 164 Increases In salaries provided pro-vided by the bill. The appropriation for miscellaneous expenses of the Senate is reduced fTa.OuO, and for the House $2i.iX. Confidential clerks are proposed for the Attorney-General and the Secretary of Commerce and Labor, at J1C00 each. The sura of $10,000 is provided for the employment employ-ment of a specialist to be appointed by the Secretary of Commerce and Labor, "to make Investigation regarding. the manner man-ner of conduct of public business in the various bureaus of the department." The appropriations for the government Of the Territories is reduced $t4,T50. The detailing of clerks or other em-poyees em-poyees from the executive departmenU or other Government establishments fh Washington to the Civil Bervlce commission commis-sion tor duty in the District of Columbia. Is prohibited; also the detail 'of clerks provided for the general staff to any other office or bureau of the War department, or vice versa. The Commissioner-General of Immigration Immigra-tion is authorised to refund head tax where collection was made erroneously. |
