Show NO FEDERAL COURT ACTION IN COLORADO i DENVER, Colo., Dec. 8. Attorney R. P.- Richardson of this city received word yesterday that Judge Sanborn, sitting in the United States court of appeals in St. Louis, had refused to assume Jurisdiction In the case of Doud et al., Denver election elec-tion officials, who have been sentenced to the county jail for contempt of the Su-pieme Su-pieme court of this State. Doud and the others were charged with disregarding the orders of the Supreme court concerning concern-ing the conduct of the recent election and were fined and sentenced to jail. Application was made to the United States court to. Intervene on the ground that the ' Supreme court was without jurisdiction to appoint watchers to supervise su-pervise elections in Denver. The case was set for hearing in St. Louis December Decem-ber 10, but Judge Sanborn today decided not to assume jurisdiction. Thought of appealing to the United States Supreme court in behalf of the convicted Democrats has been aban-dened, aban-dened, it Is said, because of the fact that the cases could not be reached on the docket of that court In less than two years time. By that time, it Is explained, the men sought to be relieved will have served their sentences and regained their freedom free-dom and any relief the Supreme court might be able to give would be unavailing. |
