The ninth annual meeting of the Utah State Medical association Is being held la the CouncU chamber In the city and county building today. The meeting which will be In session today and tomorrow, two sessions to be held each day, was called to order at 10:30 o'clock this tnorninj by the president. presi-dent. Dr. A. C. Maclean of this city. Routine business, consisting of the reports re-ports of the various committees and the reading of the minutes of the last session was attended to this forenoon. The address of the president to the members of the association was also delivered this morning. - v In his speech Dr. Maclean scored the hospitals for the high price that la charged for private patients, and he denounced in strong language the system sys-tem that is In vogue for the care of patients who are brought to the hospitals hospi-tals from the mining . camps and the railroad shops. ; The employees of the companies mentioned have $1 each month deducted from their wages as hospital fees, and when an employee becomes ill or is injured in-jured he is treated free of charge. Dr. Maclean denounced this practice as an imposition upon the medical profession. pro-fession. The following applications for membership mem-bership were received: Drs. P. T. Fiske, Salt' Lake; M. O.
