The ore Is not sent down the tram loose, but is sacked In the mine and is brought down to the stamps and turned into tha oreblna with great care. Speaking of the Gold Reef. Mr. Jewelf fiays It has driven 400 feet of tunnel since ast fall. The development haa been more than, satisfactory. The main tunnel has been driven to the .Monumental group, a distance of 192 feet, and 'one vein eighty feet wide has been cross-cut at a depth of over 300 feet. The vein was ' between porphyry walla and waa a peculiar black quarts. The values are not high, he said, but will average $5 to the ton clear across the Mammoth ledge. A good feature, he remarked, waa the fact that the gold was entirely free and could be easily caved. A rich stringer was cut. by" the tunnel while passing through the ledge, that is eighteen inches wide, he stated, and several sev-eral assays ran as high as $200 to the ton.
