Show SALT LAKE "CITY WILL BE THE GREAT DISTRIBUTING CENTER FOR CHORUS GIRLS Young Folks of Ziion Hayc v Much Natural- Talent for Dramatic Work, and Easily AcMcyc 1 Success. The announcement that the Schuberts are coming West for the purpose of picking up desirable chorus girls for that company's choruses for the coming season is of Interest to young Salt Lakers Lak-ers who asptre to places in the worlfl behind the footlights. The Schuberts will require 400 chorus and ballet girls, and as the New York ranks are never overstocked with beauties, beau-ties, that comj;any will come further -West for the material necessary to pre-j pre-j sent Its productions properly. J This calls attention to the fact that there are not a few of Salt Lake's young people on the stage who are becoming successful In vocal and' ballet circles. Salt Lake a Supply Center. Salt Lake sends, perhaps, a larger cumber of young people on the stage than any other city of its size in America.. Amer-ica.. And these young men and women are achieving success. The women are Bhapely and beautiful, two requisites for a successful chorus or ballet girl, and the young men are workers, endowed en-dowed with no small degree of natural talent.. Prof. Lolselle, who was ballet master for the original "Coriantort" production, believes that in the not remote future Salt Lake will be the headquarters for ballet and chorus girls for the entire Central West, and thai the supply will largely be from local talent. He said: Prof. Loiselle's Opinion. "Salt Lake is far and away ahead of any other city in the United States in point of dramatic talent and genuine amateur ability. There Is more real talent here than in any other city in America. "Salt Lakers who take to the stage either as vocalists or In other lines, always al-ways 'make good. "New York, with Its vast population, cannot get such talent as we have right here at home. Why They Succeed. "I ascribe this to the fact that a great many young people take an active interest in-terest in the dramatic entertainments given in the wards. These ward entertainments en-tertainments give them self-confidence and help to cultivate their dramatic talents. tal-ents. They are the best possible schools for young actors. Many Are Stage-Struck. "Many young men and women here are 'stage struck.' It is as honorable for them to be stage struck as It would be for them to be 'stenographer struck' or 'carpenter struck.' There are rflany embryonic actors here who will in time make good records for themselves if they enter the professional ranks. "'Salt Lake i as absolutely the finest local talent, both vocal and otherwise. I have ever met, and there is no reason why the big companies should not recruit re-cruit their forces here as well as elsewhere. else-where. Bare Musical Talent. ' -"Get a chorus of children together here, from all classes, and you can pick out voices of rare force and power, with remarkable sweetness of tone. The same is true of adult choruses. These vocalists are good material. "Salt Lake's young women are high in education, deportment and morals, and are away above the average in both face and figure. "These things brought me here from New York, because I could see the wonderful won-derful possibilities of Salt Lake as an actor and singer-producing city." Manager George Pyper of the Salt Lake Theater said: Manager Pyper's Views. "Yes, Salt Lake turns out many talented tal-ented singers. They do not seem to care for chorus work as a rule, but prefer pre-fer to strike for a higher mark. Individual Indi-vidual workers are far more numerous than those who desire mere chorus work. "The chances here for chorus work are small, most of the chorus work being be-ing in local companies. Comparatively few Salt Lake girls have taken up chorus cho-rus work with outside companies. "But there is no denying the fact that there is much good chorus material here. Singers Especially Good. "It is a recognized fact that a large percentage of singers and dramatic students stu-dents can be found here. The singers particularly find the road to the front. "There is something in the air that seems to Instill the dramatic tendency ' in the minds of the young of Salt Lake. There Is a general interest in music and amateur theatricals, and that is what Bends them to the stage. "They do not, however, seem tempted particularly to enter the professional chorus ranks." |
