Show LIVES OF MINERS SAVED AS IF BY A MIRACLE. LEHI. March 18. Yesterday, while Luther Coates and Alma Beck were working work-ing in a mining shaft four miles west of Lehi, an accident happened which cane hear resulting seriously to both parties. Beck was in the bottom, of the 33-foot shaft and Coates was winding the windlass. The bucket was rear the top when Coates lost control. Th.- handle of the windlass struck him on the' head, cutting cut-ting an ugly scalp wound and knocking him to the ground. The bucketful of rock was descending at a territic rate, with Beck directly beneath be-neath it, when, almost as if by a miracle, the windlass flew out of the socket and the loaded bucket stopped but a few feet above Beck's bead. Coetes was brought to Lehi. the doctor sewed up the wound in bis head, and work will be resumed today. |
