Show MONEY SAYS ROOSEVELT IS PRESIDENT OF THE BLACK BELT IN SOUTH WASHINGTON, March 18. The Senate met at 11 o'clock today and soon after Mr. Money of Mississippi, in accordance with his notice previously given, spoke on the Indianola- (Miss.) postofflce case. Mr. Money said It wu the duty of the Postmaster-General to heal the breach that had been created. The department bad made the people of the South hate the Administration. "The people of the South hoped Mr. Roosevelt would be an American President," Presi-dent," he said.' "but instead he is President of the black belt." His appointments,- he said, bad caused general disgust. He had raised the Question of social equality of the negro. Mr. Money said recent appointments have relieved the race question. The South has tolerated negro office-holders, but does not want any more of them. "This Is a white man's country and government." ' There was a feeling In the South, be said, that no colored man should hold office. - ' - |
