The Union Printers' borne was established In 1892. being dedicated on May 12 of that year the date of the anniversary of the birth of George W. Chllda, who. with Andrew J. Drexel, Contributed Con-tributed $10,000 toward the establishment Of the home. Starting with that donattm. the institution today is estimated to be worth more than $300,000, and is pronounced pro-nounced the best of its kind tn the world. It is maintained by a monthly contribution contribu-tion of 10 cents from each member of the International Typographical union, which Income has proved ample. ;Any member of the union, men or women, who become be-come physically incapable of earning a livelihood as printers, are eligible to , refuge in the home, where every comfort is provided. The Ice Wagon Drivers and Helpers' union has two scales, summer and winter. The men are divided into three classesc Peddlers, truck drivers and helpers. In Chicago, New York. Boston. Bos-ton. Philadelphia and St. Louis drivers' wages are $i0 per month, summer, and $70 per month, winter. .A clause in the contracts between this union and its employers em-ployers provides for the immediate disr charge from the company's service, as well as suspension from the union, of any member found giving short weights, thereby Insuring- the consumer of full value for his mbney.
