Show IN ONE FAMILY , TOR 75 YEARS Oldest Family Servant in America Dies Within One1 Year of Her Centennial in New Hampshire. I Mil III S WOLFBORO. N. H., June 0.-Ju-dlth Dearborn, probably the oldest family servant In America, who died a few days ago In her ninety-ninth year, was attached to the Adam Brown family, fam-ily, whose homestead is The Ridge, a famous landmark for more than seventy-live years. Aunt Judith waited on four generations genera-tions of the Brown family, and out of her savings, together with the generosity gener-osity of her last mistress, Mrs. Francis P. Adams, was enabled to buy a small home, where she passed the last few years f her useful life. Those who knew Judith Dearborn declare that she was the personification personifica-tion of faithfulness arid fidelity to her master's Interests. Her long life was spent quietly In the skillful management manage-ment of the same family, and her executive ex-ecutive ability was said to have been wonderful. A few months ago Aunt Judith gave out some of her impressions to a friend. "Seventy years ago," she said, "a good domestic Servant received 50 cents a week. Evenings and afternoons after-noons off were never heard of; but then ,we never had tlnre for such things. "Just think how much harder it was to do work without all of the conveniences con-veniences of a modern home! Surely the servant of today has little to complain com-plain of. . Nor at that time did I have any complaint to make. I was always most kindly treated by the members of the family, and, as wages Increased, so did mine. "I tell you. It sets one to thinking to see the little children we have nursed, and coddled, and petted, and spanked, grow Into white-haired men and women, wo-men, and we go on In the Fame old way, doing our duty toward their children chil-dren and grandchildren. |
