Show PUSH THE CONDUIT WORK The Mayor and Council should settle the conduit matter as speedily as possible. The best engineering engineer-ing and business talent . should ; be engaged, the whole thing considered and a 'decision made. If practical the work should be pursued along original lines, but not if the conduit is to lose 2,000,000 gallons gal-lons daily by leakage. . It would be better to lay ircn pipe. If necessary, then, the additions recommended recom-mended by the City Engineer should be ordered. If necessary the whole thing should be condemned con-demned and a new line adopted. . ' : "What-the people want is, first, permanent work; wcond, no graft, and third, that the work shall, if possible, be finished for use during the arid months this year. ; 1 : : The haste and unpreparedness manifested laBt year point directly to an attempt to influence the city election by a great show of enterprise. The people do not care for any more of that business. They want the water; they want. at this end of the conduit about all the, water taken in at the further end, and they want such construction as will insure permanency. . It is an engineer's business to decide upon the. plan, then it is a simple business matter to complete the work. By the way, how about titles to. the waters of the Cottonwoods? . We could get no data under the former administration. What is this one doing ? With the conduit completed will there be any water to which the city has a title to turn through it? . |
