Show JUDGE TIRING Of PACKER'S TRIAL Urges Attorneys to Expedite Ex-pedite Affairs; Letters Ruled Out. CHICAGO. Feb. 28. Judge Humphrey, Hum-phrey, presiding in the packers' case, today declined to admit as evidence the correspondence that passed between Commissioner Garfield and Special Agent Durand, while the latter was in-i vestigatlng the beef Inquiry in Chicago. He hald that anything that went to show the mental attitude of the packers pack-ers in the case was admissible, but that the letters were hearsay evidence and would not be comaetent. The court also urged the attorney's to livelier efforts in the conduct of the case, and expressed the hope that "this case will not last until eternity." The greater part of the forenoon. was occupied by the testimony of Mr. Durand. |
