Show MARVEL HflTf OR I MRS. LONGWORTH Hade of Pure Silver and Adorned With Silver feather. When Mrs. Longworth was gathering together the rnost remarkable trousseau trous-seau 'ever purchased in America she decided de-cided that she would have a hat that had no counterpart upon this continent. A hat of pure silver decorated with a giant plume of silver was what she made up her mind to have. . Nobody had ever seen-an ostrich plume of silver, and such a creation had certainly never been attempted in this country, if in any other. The most 'skillful worker in silver and feathers was engaged and he set to work to manufacture from countless filaments of silver an ostrich feather that would be almost as light as a real feather and have the appearance of one, save the glory of light radiating from it. He made a plume forty inches in length that curls almost around the large rolling hat of silver which it adorns and droops down upon the hair of the young bride. The hat. is woven entirely of sliver, and has sliver tulle drawn in loose folds around the crown and clustered at the back over the bandeau, which tilts the hat forward over the face a little. The giant plume is fastened to the right side and sweeps around the left of the crown, over and around the brim and down upon the hair. Mrs. Longworth has the distinction of wearing the only ostrich plume of silver sil-ver ever made in America or anywhere, any-where, it is said, and that plume weighs not more than four ounces. The entire hat, when finished, weighed half a pound, and it is a marvel in millinery skill, in weaving and in plume making. The cost of the hat is $200, including the plume. |
