Show REFUSES $300 FOR. AN OLD STEEL PEN FAIR HAVEN. Vt.. Feb. 28.-For a common steel stub pen with a woodn holder, the Hon. Ira R. Alien of this) town, his friends say, has refused a casH offer of $300. made by a souvenir hunterl who succeeded after three years in locat-l Ing the whereabouts of the pen used by Gov. McCullough to sign Vermont's local option law. I Mr. Allen received the pen as a gift In 1902 while he was chairman of the Repub-j Ik-an State committee, from his friendJ Edward L. Bates, the secretary of civil and military affairs. He now has the! pen in a handsome frame, with a letteij from the donor, which reads: A Souvenir of Emancipation. State ol Vermont.
