Show LAND OFFICE BILL PRACTICALLY SHELVED WASHINGTON. Feb. lfi.-Representa-tlve Howells's bill, creating a new land office at Vernal. Utah, was up for consideration con-sideration at the session of the Committee Com-mittee on Public Lands of the Senate. Senator Hansbrough, chairman of the committee, declined to hear arguments upon the merits of the bill and sent it to a sub-comr.iltee. composed of Senators Gamble, Newlanda and Dletrlck. Senator Kearns was in hope a bill could be reported re-ported establishing a new land office In Utah and leaving Ita location to the discretion dis-cretion of the President. This, however. Senator Smoot refused to agree to, and It looks now as If there would be no additional addi-tional land office provided for Utah at this session. |
