Show INJURED IN EXPLOSION Many Workmen Arc Victims Vic-tims of Accident in a Sulphur Factory. NEW YORK, Feb. 16 Eight workmen were badly Injured by an explosion of sulphur sul-phur in the Brooklyn sulphur works In Brooklyn today. Firemen and policemen who brought them out of the building were themselves much affected by breathing breath-ing the sulphur fumes, and at one time ten firemen were lying on the sidewalk with ambulance surgeons administering restoratives. It is believed four of the Injured workmen will die. The tlrst explosion was quickly followed by a second, and in a minute the whole three-story building was in flames. A number of workmen were caught where there were no tire escapes and had to jump to the ground. When the firemen arrived men were hanging from windows and were taken down with the aid of scaling ladders. The explosions are sup-i sup-i posed to have been caused by the Ignition of the sulphur by a spark caused by the presence of a nail In the mechanism of one of the sulphur grinding machines. |
