Show HEARST RETAINS EX-GOV. BLACK Noted New York Lawyer Will Handle Criminal End of Contest NEW YORK, Nov. 21. Clarence J. Shearn, personal counsel of William H. Hearst, announced last night that' ex-Gov.J ex-Gov.J Frank S. Black had been retained to take charge of the criminal end of thes litigation which ha? grown out of Mr.' Heart's Mayoralty contest. Mr. Black will take hold at once and will work in co-oaeration with Attor-rey-General Mayer. Mr. Shearn intimated inti-mated that the ex-Governor might act . cs a special deputy Attorney-General to follow up an important line of Investigation Investi-gation which has developed within the last two or three days. Mr. Shtarn announced that application applica-tion would be made today for an order for tbe opening1 of ballot boxes. The Hearst lawyers last night had not determined de-termined whether to ask for the opening open-ing of only one ballot box at first as a test case, or make application at the same time for the opening for the ballot bal-lot boxes from a " number of election districts in which they allege evidences of fraud have been discovered. |
