Show Inability to Render Self 1 Adjustable to Restrictions Makes Oriental Unhappy B By BETTY BETrY BLA BLAIR BLAm Intolerance c can n often be ba Tendered rendered nil by the tolerant altitude attitude of those ag against whom the limitation imitation is placed Lessons in tolerance tolerance tolerance toler toler- d ance and in hi the breaking down of small prejudices may be taught more by example than precept and by ignoring than paying attention to the attitude Dear Miss Bl BlI Blair I am coming to you for help on ona ona a problem which h might be bo of less importance but anyway allway I need your our suggestion My ily problem is this I just got through school this year and dont don't what to do next As A. o I am aman aman aman an Oriental I could not get Jet a job here In which I have prepared my my- self I cannot go to my home country yet because of financial reason I have got gal a job now but It just barely pays my daily necessities I seem to miss the company of my school and best friends So this summer I am getting lonesome lonesome lone- lone I some come and I dont don't know what to do dowhen dowhen dowhen when I get through with my work I am interested in swimming boating horse riding and hiking but oftentimes the privilege of participating in any of the these e recreations recreations rec rec- is denied to me because of race attitudes I cannot go horse riding because I have no horse here I cannot go swimming swimming swim swim- ming ining because of no convenient place for me mc to go As to boating boating boating boat boat- ing the Liberty park is the only convenient place Lacks Place for Interest My school friends arc are all out of the city Thus I cannot easily seek their company I 1 feel I really want to join an organization which has a a. worthy aim I am interested In social work but as asI asI asI I said as I am an Oriental it seems as if I have no place here tor for such interest Likes Good Music As to character I think I am all allright right I can get along with anyone anyone anyone any any- one who also has a good moral character I dont don't smoke nor drink I am not interested in dancing I am however Interested interested interested inter inter- ested in good music and I have a good taste for good literature especially poetry and dramatic work But as I have not had a chance to develop myself in most h of these things all aU what I can cando do is to appreciate them So if you know of any place or what I can do to devote my extra time in these lines Jines of interest interest inter inter- est cat I have mentioned above please pease tell me I am a gentleman about 29 years old So I cannot possibly join women's group As w we WI arc are very few in this city we cannot have bave an organization of our own LONESOME LONESO V WANDERER ANDERER Racial prejudices are probably the hardest of all to overcome but buta a ft man educated in this country should have a tolerance and understanding understanding understanding under under- standing for the limitations of other people that do not include him in their social circles There was formerly formerly for for- merly a cosmopolitan club in this and nd though the organization may no longer be functioning the people who composed it are still sun here and must still feel leel the need of social contacts I imagine the reason why the club I stopped functioning was because no noone noone noone one would take the continuous initiative initiative initiative of of leadership to keep it going Surely if companionship means so much to you and it does docs to most of ofus ofus us s. s th there re is something you could do about bringing these young people I I of other ollier nations together for some i of the pastimes might all enjoy It costs so little to hike with lunch kits for an evening of fun tun and wiener roasts The boats at Liberty park may require a larger fund but neither they nor the pond should be despised when they are all there is to Co offer by way of boating boat boat- ing and the swimming resorts are open to you Few Can Be Bo Man Many Your idea that a few lew cant can't make a crowd is wrong The few there are of you of your own race if you have tastes and aid interests in common common com corn mon even though there be but two can break the loneliness cycle The way to fo be less lonely is to do something about making the other fellow who is doubtless as lonely as you less lonely You can do this even though you ha have hae e to start a school or club to teach others to appreciate all that you enjoy but for which you have no outlet Good music and literary appreciation would be a welcome subject to m many ny Remember it isn't what other people do for you but what you do for others that makes you youless youless less Jess lonely The attentions other people people peo pea pie bestow on you may cease at any moment and leave you as lonely as before the interests you dev develop lop in n others of a beneficial nature have havea haven a n perpetual motion effect on your own interests Try it and see if Im I'm not right ART OF LEADERSHIP Dear Miss Blair i I am very much interested In what it takes
