D which he established and conducted conducted conducted con con- ducted for three years Production costs in intrigued intrigued intrigued in- in him hm and as the result of diligent Study he soon became known as a cost expert B Because Because Be Be- cause of his having acquired basic knowledge of printing and costs he was successful in a commercial he opened before coming to Utah twenty years ago He traveled as a lecturer lecturer lec lee before printing associations and held several several several sev sev- eral important posts in the industry in the east On first coming here he was secretary of the printers' printers organization then began publication of the Franklin price list This is widely used in inthe inthe inthe the United States and has been translated into many for for use abroad Mr Porte traveled in all principal countries of the world He collected a fine library exemplifying exemplifying the printing art in all ages He acquired famil familiarity arity with the best in literature and though his schooling had been cut short early in his life he became a man of scholarly attainments attainments attainments attain attain- attain attain- ments and high culture As a typographer his work w was fine art and bindings of his design are cherished possessions of craftsmen and book book- lovers Mr Porte was born in Woodstock N.
