Show f DAM PROJECT TO INCREASE DUCKS IN UTAH In what promises to add greatly great-ly to the annual Utah duck harvest, har-vest, and in addition control botulism botu-lism in the Bear River Migratory Bay area, is the proposed con-j con-j struction of the Deweyville Dam j on Bear River in Box Elder coun-, coun-, ty below the town of Collinston. The Utah Fish and Game Commission Com-mission has made preliminary surveys sur-veys of the vast area lying west of the Bear River marshes and east of the Promonotory mountains; moun-tains; they report these former barren wastelands to be changing. Because of the manipulation of the Bear River marsh area water, wat-er, the lands mentioned are now producing plant life 'and furnish nesting grounds for millions of birds which migrate to Utah. The warm shallow water later in the season, however, often breeds the feared "duck sickness" or botulism, botu-lism, which can only be controlled by the use of additional water. Such water could be stored in the proposed Deweyville Dam, across which might also pass a highway to connect U. S. 89 and 191, the Fish and Game Dept. points out. A bill to get this project is now underway before congress and is knovn as Senate Bill 2032. All interested in-terested should urge the immediate immedi-ate passage of this legislation. |
