Show CARBON WILL PLAY IN REGION 3 UNDER NEW SETUP A shakeup in Class A high school athletics was announced toy the State High School Activities Asosciation, this week and calls for a shifting of some of the Dig teams. Carbon, particularly was the team shifted out on a limb. After considerable deliberation and much arbitration, the board of directors of the UHSAA agreed on the following principles for Class A football and basketball next season:-Region season:-Region One, The Same "In football and basketball, the six schools now in region one will J continue to play in one league. Provo will play with the region seven-eight conference ( now known as the Big Nine). "In football, foot-ball, Carbon will play at- least five conference games, with the following follow-ing provisions: 1. One game at home and one away with schools in region one. (These two games may be with two different schools.) The school or schools to play Carbon shall be determined by the board of managers man-agers in region one. 2. One game at home and away with either Provo or Ogden. 3 Carbon's fifth game must be approved by the class A athletic committee, through the executive secretary of U H S A A. 4. The five games shall be counted in the conference standing for or against the schools involved with Carbon. Moab Considered 5. Moab must play at least four league football games, two at home and two away, with schools in region three and four. 6. In basketball, Carbon shall play two games in the Alpine district dis-trict and two in the Nebo district of region three, and shall play at least four 'other games on a home and home league basis." These recommendations have great possibilities for class A competitive com-petitive athletics, but they do not solve every problem, and the prep leaders are probably first to realize real-ize their shortcomings. Under this setup, Nebo basketball basket-ball teams and maybe a football team will be competing against the school in these two particular sports. |
