Show ONLY 32 PER CENT RETURN CARDS ON DEER HUNTING Only an approximate 32 of Utah's deer hunters returned kill cards off their 1946 licenses despite de-spite repeated appeals by the Utah fish and game department to mail the cards in because the information is vital in drafting- big game management policies, figures released today revealed. David M. Gaufin, federal aid project leader, announced that a total of 33,909 buck hunting cards were received, but pointed out that 20,446 of these were picked up at checking stations while only 13,463 were mailed in, further proof of hunters' "what do I care" attitude. The return from special hunts was considerably better with a total to-tal of 13,258 cards received. Of this number, 8816 were resident hunter cards and the remainder, non-resident. Regular buck hunt cards mailed in revealed a 46 hunter success while those picked up at checking check-ing stations showed a 95 hunter success, indicating the successful hunter is more prone to be cooperative coop-erative than the unsuccessful one. The special hunt card return showed show-ed an approximat 75 hunter success. |
