Show Prospects of Canyon Site As Recreation Area To Be Explained City Mayors, County Commissioners, Forest Officials and Professional Skier To Attend Jaycee Sponsored Meeting This Evening The prospects of. the Hobble Creek-Bartholomew canyon can-yon site becoming a county recreational area, will be discussed dis-cussed at a meeting sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce Thursday evening, beginning be-ginning at 8 p. m., at Valley Tavern, Tav-ern, announces A. H. Mortensen, club president. Sverre Engen, nationally known skiier, will be at the meeting and will report on his visit Sunday, in company with a number of local lo-cal sportsmen, to the proposed ski site. Upon his return from the canyon, Engen explained that it was the best site he had seen in the state and he urged that plans be formulated immediately to develop de-velop the area. MAKE TRIP Others who made the trip to the area Sunday included representatives representa-tives from the local recreation committee and a number of sportsmen. sports-men. Merrill Nielson, forest ranger, ran-ger, is an enthusiastic booster for the proposed recreation area and has signified that he will do all in his power to hav.e the natural resources developed. The site is at a 7,000-foot elevation eleva-tion with a possible 3,000-foot ski lift,' which would make the site the best for skiing in the state. It has already received the consideration con-sideration of forest officials. ASSISTANCE SOUGHT It is hoped that assistance in developing the area can be secured secur-ed from the. county as well as the forest service and that advantage will be taken of the perfect setting set-ting provided. Developing of the area would necessitate the building of a new three-mile road and improving the present road up the left-hand fork of Hobble Creek canyon. If sufficient suf-ficient backing is secured it would be possible to build a huge lodge in the area and make it available for accommodation of county sportsmen, it was pointed out. SPECIAL GUESTS The Chamber has invited the Utah county commissioners, the mayors of every city in the county, coun-ty, as well as Merrill Nielson and other forest officials from Provo and Ogden, to attend the meeting Thursday evening.
