Show Mapleton Considers City Zoning Ordinance; Public Hearing Scheduled Robert Bird, chairman of the Mapleton city planning plan-ning commission, announces a public meeting called f orMonday evening, April 25, at 7 :30 p. m., to con- sider a proposed city zoning ordinance ordin-ance for Mapleton. The meeting will be held in the Mapleton school auditorium, and a special invitation invita-tion is extended to all interested citizens to attend. Preliminary plans for zoning of Mapleton have ben completed by the commission and an ordinance is now ready for study by citizens. Details of the ordinance will be explained at the public meeting, and all questions concerning its adoption will be discussed. Suggestions Sug-gestions and recommendations will also be accepted from the townspeople towns-people before it is presented to the city council, Mr. Bird stated. It is hoped that the ordinance will reflect re-flect the will of the people. Under provisions of the ordinance, or-dinance, farm animals will not be excluded from the city, and all uses and buildings in existence exist-ence at present will be allowed al-lowed to stay. Only new buildings and uses will be required re-quired to comply with the provisions pro-visions of the ordinance, it is pointed out. In answer to questions asked frequently on the proposed ordinance, ordin-ance, the following are asked and answered by Mr. Bird: Is zoning legal and can it be enforced? Yes, supreme court declared de-clared it so. If there is an industry or other use existing in a residential district dis-trict which does not comply with the provisions of that district, will the building or use have to be dis- continued or removed? Yes, the city council can amend the ordinance anytime in the future, fu-ture, providing that before doing so a public hearing is held so townspeople will have a chance to voice their opinions.
