Show Jaycees Name Hew Officers; Set Installation April 20 Mayland Russell was elected president of the Springville Junior Chamber of Commerce at the I 4m'x t s ) fx - loi i I kit 5 d ' J I Mr. Russell Wednesday evening meeting. LaMar Miner and Art Childs were elected vice-presidents, and Dr. Fred Wise, Marcus Johnson, Scott Bertelsen and Jay Newman, directors. Clarence Smith and Stan Roberts are holdover directors. Robert Parker, past president of the group will assume position of state director. The secretary and the treasurer will be appointed by the new president and board. Retiring board memebrs include Wallace Patrick, Richard Oakley and Paul Roundy. Mays Anderson and Don Wiser are retiring secretary sec-retary and treasurer respectively. Formal installation ceremonies will take place April 20 in the Springville Second ward chapel with the Jaycee wives as special guests. Marcus Johnson is in charge of arrangements. (Continued from Page One) President Parker gave an interesting interest-ing resume of the past year's activities act-ivities of the group. Among the more prominent projects carried out have been: Sponsoring of the Springville Independence Day activities act-ivities including the first midget auto races to be held in this corn-unity, corn-unity, winning of the "Parlor D" award at the state Jaycee convention con-vention for the most unique stunt, participation in the city-wide "Back to School" campaign, sponsoring spon-soring a concert by Rubinoff and his violin with proceeds turned over to the civic orchestra, participation par-ticipation in the city recreation program, playing donkey baseball game to raise funds for buying uniforms for the high school pep club, participating in the city soft-ball soft-ball league, taking over the Christmas Christ-mas lighting for the community and giving a gigantic Chrictmas party complete with Santa and a treat for all children of the town, co-sponsoring a successful dancing club, sponsoring a "get-out-the-vote" campaign assisting in honoring hon-oring Boy Scouts of this district dis-trict at a winter party, sponsoring sponsor-ing of a local boy (Carl Angus) as a delegate to Boys State, assisting assist-ing in the Red Cross drive and contributing to other worthwhile drives. Other projects were car ried out as fund-raising projects for club purposes. Also during the evening membership member-ship pins were awarded to five new members: Gordon Hamilton, Scott Bertelsen, Dr. Fred Wise, Dave Fullmer, and Earl McKen-zie. |
