Show School District Receives Audiometer' To Aid In Student Hearing Tests The Springville Kiwanis club, in coperation with other civic organizations of Spanish Fork and Pay-son, Pay-son, presented a $300 audiometer to the Nebo school district at a meeting of the board last Wednesday evening, according accord-ing to announcement made this week. Harold Christensen, Springville, Spring-ville, past lieutenant-governor of Kiwanis and member of the board from Springville, made the presentation. pre-sentation. Legrand F. Smith, president of the school board, voiced appreciation appre-ciation for the gift and promised that it would be put to good use. District Health Nurses Maria Johnson and Leona Curtis explained ex-plained that the machine would enable them to give more accurate ac-curate hearing tests and enable them to make better corrective treatment. They reported that at least 10 per cent of the students stu-dents of the district had hearing defects. A portion of these, the nurses reported, could, only" be detected with the use of the hearing hear-ing aid. The new machine will enable the nurses to check as many as 50 students per day. . Each of the three communities contributed $100. Participating clubs were the Springville Kiwanis Ki-wanis Club, Spanish Fork Kiwanis Ki-wanis Club, and the Lions Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Cultus Club, Junior Cultis and Beta Cultis Clubs of Payson. Commenting on the gift, Mr. Christensen said the state owned an audiometer but it was in constant con-stant use and could only reach schools here about every year. Initiating the movement in- the various cities to raise funds for the audiometer were: Bill Hansen of Payson; Marcellus Neilson of Spanish Fork, both formerly of Springville and Mr. Christensen of the local Kiwanis club. |
