Show t AUREOLE CLUB HEARS j EVENING OF MUSIC Mrs. Ivan Child was hostess to j members of the Aureole at her home last Friday evening, with Mrs. Esther Johnson in charge of the program topic, "A Night at the Opera." Mrs. Rea Straw gave a delightful review of the opera, "Mignon," by Charles Thomas, also a brief history of the composer. Her talk was interspersed with the playing of recordings by prominent prom-inent opera stars, which were a timely and pleasing supplement to the reading. This opera, as presented pre-sented by Mrs. Straw, proved intriguing in-triguing and beautiful, and she called it "the opera of adventure." In connection with the program, was the group of solos kindly given giv-en by Miss Marie Child, who sang "My Hero," from The Chocolate Soldier, and "Love Come Back to Me," from "The New Moon." Her sweet young voice was much appreciated ap-preciated by her listeners. She was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Julia Sumsion. Mrs. Straw also played other request recordings which were also enjoyed. The program was preceded by the serving of a delicious luncheon to nineteen members and three visitors, by the hostess and her two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Miner Min-er and Marie Child. The president, Mrsj Marta 'Czirr, conducted a business busi-ness session during which it was voted to send the contributed articles arti-cles of clothing and groceries, to Girl Scout camps in Greece, Finland, Fin-land, Czechoslovakia and Norway for distribution. More children's clothing, garden seeds and candy are to be brought to the next meeting, also. In connection with Youth Conservation, the club members, mem-bers, voted $5.00 toward the playground play-ground equipment for the Springville Spring-ville Recreation park project. It was also resolved to cooperate with the PTA and other women's organizations orga-nizations of the city in promoting better shows for children at our theatre. Another motion was passed to help the other federated clubs of the city to sponsor a play from the BYU for the purpose of raising funds for the Art Show. Two new members were welcomed wel-comed into the club at this time. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Lois Child on Feb. 7th. |
