Show Spring Sports At High School Are Weather-Hampered Spring sports awaited only the weather's sanction sanc-tion at the Springville high school campus, as winter returned the past week for an indefinite stay. Participants in baseball, track and tennis sports are all lined up and ready to go, with some practice prac-tice sessions already having been held. In Baseball . . . Coach Paul Wilson will handle the baseball team this year, and some 20 candidates have responded to the popular sport's call. Five members are back from last year's club and are vieing for a position. Keith Beardall, Frank Hunt, Jimmy Jim-my Thorn, Lloyd Hodson and Glen Sanford are the lettermen. Others include Jack Fullmer. Don Cutler, Gail Bartholomew, Sterling Diamond, Dia-mond, Gail Carter, Reese Bale. James Kirkman, Grant Lloyd, Wendell Packard, Duane Hansen, Lloyd Chapman, Robert Rayburn, Boyd Sorensen, Don Williams and Ted Van Leuvan. In Track . . . A banner year is in the offing for Red Devil track adepts this year, with nine returning letter-men letter-men from last year's Region 3 championship squad. Among the nine are four members who competed com-peted in the state meet to bring second place honors back with them. These include Neil Beardall, Bear-dall, Gordon Smith, Russell Sum-sion, Sum-sion, Bob Allan, Don Robertson and Phillip Hodson. The first track meet' of the season sea-son is scheduled for Friday, April 8, against the South High team of Salt Lake City, at Salt Lake. George Pehrson is handling track duties as coach. In Tennis . . . Likewise in tennis the outlook for a sucessful season is good. Three of six performers will return re-turn from last year's team. These include Wendell Packard, Jimmy Thorn, and Demoine Blackley. Other candidates who have been showing up well are Gordon Crandall, Cran-dall, Dean Allan and Carl Nelson. The team will be coached by Lynn Rockwood, former B. Y. U. star. |
