With vegetable or any other shortening, use 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk. Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt, and sift together three times. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating very thoroughly after each. Add flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time, . beating after each addition until smooth. Add vanilla. Turn into 9x9x2-lnch square pan which has been lined on bottom with paper, then greased. Bake in moderate oven (375"F.) 25 minutes, or until done. Frost cake with Seven-Minute Frosting and sprinkle generously gen-erously with coconut while frosting is bMU soft. Tested Kitchen Receipt. by Francex Barton |
