Show FURTHER WORD COMES OF WOUNDED MAN A recent letter from Pfc. Roy Bird, who was wounded April 4, told of the nature and manner in which he received the wounds. He stated that with other members of the Sevnth Army, he was ordered or-dered to clear a cemetery of German Ger-man snipers. As the men passed through the cemetery, a German sniper in a nearby church steeple shot Pfc. Bird in the neck, the bullet bul-let passing through his jaw and injuring his face. He was rushed directly to England Eng-land from the heart of Germany by plane and was reported to be doing as well as could be expected. Pfc. Bird said the hospitals in England were wonderfully equipped, equip-ped, and he was getting the best care possible. His parents on Tuesday, had received re-ceived the Purple Heart, awarded to Pfc. Bird in recognition of his wounds. |
