Show GERMAN LOSSES ! MAKE RECORD Since the Allied landed in Normandy Nor-mandy on June 6, 1944, the German Ger-man armies in western Europe have suffered losses that are almost al-most without parallel in the history his-tory of warfare. In ten months and ten days, 2,055,575 Germans have been captured cap-tured and estimates of the dead and permanently wounded exceed one million. The figures, especially of the number captured, reveal a triumphant trium-phant campaign that produced results re-sults of a magnitude not yet appreciated ap-preciated in the United States. General Eisenhower predicted before the invasion, that within a year after landing the Western allies would break the Wehrmacht in the West. He has abundantly and modestly fulfilled his forecast. The fruits of the strategy employed em-ployed by the American general are evidenced in the number of prisoners taken in the seven days, commencing on April 10. In the week, 439,94 prisoners were captured. cap-tured. The bag pays tribute to brilliant bril-liant planning on the part of the General Staff and almost flawless execution on the part of soldiers in the field. |
