Show Open House Compliments Visiting Relatives Complimenting Dr. Vern O. Knudsen of Los Angeles, Calif., internationally known scientist who came to Utah to deliver an address in a two-day symposium sponsored by the . $ University of Utah, also for his wife and their son Morris and Mrs. W. D. Rawson and Mr. and Mrs. Lynne A. Pettit and children, all of Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Reynolds, Jr., sister and brother-in-law, entertained at open op-en house at their home Sunday. Another sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Miles Miller of Salt Lake City, were also special guests. Relatives and friends from California, Cali-fornia, New York and from as far as Johannesburg, South Africa, visited during the afternoon. Refreshments Re-freshments were served to approximately approxi-mately 150 from an attractive table covered with a pretty Chinese cutwork cloth and summer flowers. Dr. Knudsen is a native Provoan, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Knudsen. He is a brother of Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. Rawson, Mrs. Miller and of Heber and Karl Knudsen of Provo. Dr. Knudsen lectured Monday morning at the LDS tabernacle in Salt Lake City on "Recent Developments Devel-opments in Architectural Acoustics." Acous-tics." It was the opening address of a two-day symposium sponsored by the University of Utah on the science of sound. He worked with Thomas Edison during the World War I in the science of acoustics and during World War H was called by the government to work as an acoustic acous-tic and sound specialist. He is internationally famed, having been honored by the British Association for the Advancement of Science as a speaker at its quarter-century meeting in London. He has worked with sound pictures and has been consulted on the acoustical acous-tical properties of some of the world's greatest buildings including includ-ing Radio City. He is the author of "Architectural Acoustics." |
